Petra Steinert
Petra Steinert received her education as a dancer at “Die Etage” in Berlin from 1991-93. After that she completed her education at the renowned “Rotterdam Dance Academy”. She graduated as a teacher for modern dance and improvisation in 1997. She got a work scholarship rewarded at “Jennifer Muller / the works”, New York, USA.
Petra was head of the large and diverse dance department of the “Heinrich-Schütz-Konservatorium Dresden” from 1999 until 2005. Since 1997 she has performed in and choreographed for different productions in Germany, Slovenia and The Netherlands. In 2002 she was cofounder of the dance company “shot AG”. In 2003 she was commissioned by the dance festival “TANZherbst” to develop a solo work. “polar” has been performed successfully over the last 3 years. In 2004 she developed “keep cool”, a performance event.
During her time at the dance department of the “Heinrich-Schütz-Konservatorium Dresden” she developed many choreographic pieces for children and youth. In 2005 she moved to Canada, where she became part of the Young Lungs Dance Exchange. She choreographed various shorter pieces for independent Winnipeg dancers and collaborated with Winnipeg dancer Johanna Riley for the Fringe show “ON THE ROCKS”
Petra has been teaching at the School of Contemporary Dancers in the Junior and Senior Professional Program, the School of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as well as at the Osborne Street Dance Club.
